Privacy Policy

The short version: Nephoscope collects only what it needs to show you lightning and send the alerts you ask for. We never share or sell your mobile number, SMS opt-in or consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

What we collect

Saved sites. The locations you save (for example home or a ballfield), so we can check for lightning near them.
Device location, only if you allow it, to show lightning around you. You can use the app without sharing location.
Push notification token, if you turn on push alerts.
Mobile phone number and SMS consent record, only if you turn on text alerts. The consent record holds the time you agreed, the app version and the consent wording you saw.
Sign in with Apple identifier, if you choose to sign in.
Basic service logs (such as delivery status and errors) that keep the service reliable.

Text message alerts (SMS)

If you opt in to Nephoscope Lightning Alerts by text, we use your mobile number only to send the lightning and all-clear alerts you asked for, a one-time code that confirms your number, and replies to HELP or STOP. Message frequency varies with the weather (typically a few per week in storm season). Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to cancel at any time. See the full SMS Terms.

We do not share, sell, or provide your mobile phone number or messaging consent data to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

How we use it

We use this information only to run Nephoscope: detecting lightning near your sites, sending the push or text alerts you asked for, confirming your number, handling HELP/STOP requests and preventing abuse. We don't sell personal information, and we don't use your phone number for advertising.

Who processes it

We rely on service providers that act on our instructions: Twilio (text message delivery and phone verification), Apple (push notifications and Sign in with Apple) and Cloudflare (hosting). They may use this data only to provide their service to us. No mobile information is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party, except the providers listed above that deliver the service.

Retention and deletion

We keep your phone number and consent record while text alerts are on. After you reply STOP or turn text alerts off, we keep a minimal opt-out record so we don't text you again. You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing hi@dannyleontieff.com, and removing a saved site in the app deletes it from our service.

Children

Nephoscope is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
